As we approach the end of the 2017 calendar year, we need your help in maintaining the integrity of our continuously aging collection. Last year, with the donations received we were able to provide much-needed conservation work to two 1930s oil paintings on canvas, Dali’s Fantasies Diurnes (1932) and Puzzle of Autumn (1935). This year, we are focusing our conservation efforts on Dali’s early Surrealist works including Oeufs sur le Plat sans le Plat (Eggs on the Plate without the Plate) (1932) and Girl’s Back (1926). The delicate, time-consuming and precise work of restoration not only returns the works to a more pristine condition for viewing, it also helps assure the longevity of ever-aging Dali works in our permanent collection.

This work needs cleaning of the reverse, consolidation of scuffs and lifted paint, surface grime and overpaint removal, retouching of losses and glazing and support for the aging canvas.
Dali’s younger sister, Anna Maria, willingly sat as a model for her brother in the 1920s, especially in the early months leading up to his first solo exhibition, at the Galeries Dalmau in Barcelona. This work demonstrates Dali’s increasing skill and technical mastery. The painting has the luminosity and inner glow caused by the use of dammar varnish rather than oil as a binding medium for his paints.
This painting is in need of surface cleaning, consolidation of lifting paint, removal or thinning of varnish, retouching losses and enclosing the work in a ‘heritage package’ to keep it in a stable climate.
